would you rather

Own a car that can fly or own a car that can go underwater???
I would rather own a car that can go underwater because I have seen what's up in the sky
when I go in the aeroplane. I would not choose... own a car that can fly because you would not
breathe but if you choose a car that can go underwater the doors can be shut and no water will go in.

Making a difference

Beach clean up
Alice and Melissa have been wanting to save sea animals from the plastic that people throw on the ground. By saving sea animals we wanted to do a beach clean up. We probably won't get the plastic in the ocean but we can get the plastic on the beach.  We wanted to write about keeping the sea animals safe. Fish, turtles, sharks, and other sea animals have been dying from all the plastic that people have just been dumping everywhere. We think it’s wrong, how hard can it be by putting your rubbish in the bin. The animals have done nothing wrong to humans, so were going to save the animals by cleaning the beach. on the beach. link: Making a difference

11 facts about volcanoes

1 A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth. When pressure builds up, eruptions occur. 2 In an eruption, gases and rock shoot up through the opening and spill over or fill the air with lava fragments. Eruptions can cause lava flows, hot ash flows, mudslides, avalanches, falling ash and floods. 3 The danger area around a volcano covers about a 20-mile radius. 4. Fresh volcanic ash, made of pulverized rock, can be harsh, acidic, gritty, glassy and smelly. The ash can cause damage to the lungs of older people, babies and people with respiratory problems. 5. Volcanic lightning occurs mostly within the cloud of ash during an eruption and is created by the friction of the ash rushing to the surface. Roughly 200 accounts of this lightning have been witnessed live. 6. An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mudflows and rockfalls. 7. An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mudflows and rockfalls. 8. There are more than 500 active volcanoes in the world. More than half of these volcanoes are part of the "Ring of Fire," a region that encircles the Pacific Ocean. 9. Active volcanoes in the U.S. are found mainly in Hawaii, Alaska, California, Oregon and Washington, but the greatest chance of eruptions near areas where many people live is in Hawaii and Alaska. 10. The sound of an eruption volcano can be quiet and hissing or explosive and booming. The loud cracks travel hundreds of miles and do the most damage, including hearing loss and broken glass.11. The most deadly eruptions have occurred in Indonesia, with tens of thousands of lives lost to starvation, tsunami (as a result of the eruption), ash flows, and mudflows.

red necked phararope

Red-necked Phalarope. The red-necked phalarope(Phalaropus lobatus) is a small wader. This phalarope breeds in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. It is migratory, and, unusually for a wader, winters at sea on tropical oceans.
Species: P. lobatus

Genus: Phalaropus
The red-necked grebe eats minnows and other small fish, crayfish, tadpoles, salamanders, insects, and aquatic plants. When it is looking for food, it often swims with its head underwater and then dives when it spots food. Sometimes it scoops up food from the surface of the water.
After breeding, red-necked phalaropes migrate to the Arabian Sea and seas off New Guinea and Indonesia, and Ecuador and Peru. On migration, they are often seen on small pools near coasts and sometimes blew onshore by storms. There are 12 accepted records of red-necked phalaropes in New Zealand.
It sleeps floating lightly on the sea surface. The red-necked phalarope is a small-headed, large-bodied wading bird with a long needle-like bill and lobed toes. In breeding plumage, adults have white throat patches and a predominantly dark grey head and back.
